BERKELEY COUNTY (WCSC) - Over 140 business leaders will trade the boardroom for the classroom Dec. 1, as part of The Education Foundation’s “Principal for a Day” program. The program matches business leaders with school principals for a day of immersion in the Lowcountry’s four school systems.
“Participants will have the opportunity to ‘walk the walk’ with a principal,” said Amy Kovach, chair of The Education Foundation. “They will learn first-hand about leading a public school, and find out how businesses and schools can work together for mutual benefit.”
Every Berkeley County school, as well as the district office, is slated to welcome a ‘principal’ on Dec. 1. An example of the partnerships forged by The Education Foundation for this event include a M.U.S.C. leader visiting Hanahan High School, to study their exceptional health sciences career academy. Also, a Boeing leader and a SPAWAR leader at Cane Bay High School and Stratford High School, respectively, where ‘S.T.E.M.’ – science, technology, engineering and math -- related career pathways are offered to students. Additionally, more leaders from universities in the region are taking part at middle schools, to build students’ understanding of technical and advanced degrees at an earlier age.
