Magazine: Charleston is '4th-tastiest town in the South'

CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Charleston will be featured in the upcoming issue of Southern Living magazine as one of the "10 Tastiest Towns in the South."

After holding a vote for their readers, editors of the magazine compiled their top 10 list, which places Charleston 4th behind: Birmingham, Alabama; Baltimore, Maryland, and Lafayette, Louisiana.

Rounding out the top 10 are: Charlottesville, Virginia; Decatur, Georgia; Houston, Texas; Louisville, Kentucky; New Orleans, Lousiana, and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Charleston Wine & Food Festival opens Thursday

Charleston Wine & Food Festival opens Thursday

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC/AP) - It's a big week for foodies and beverage connoisseurs, as the Charleston Wine and Food Festival returns to Charleston.

Wine, barbecue and tacos are among the staples being offered this year.  The festival runs through Sunday at locations around the city.

The 4-day event opens Thursday at 10 a.m., with an invite-only sommelier competition.  Opening ceremonies kick off at 11 a.m. in Marion Square on Friday.

Returning this year is the culinary village with various food offerings in Marion Square on the edge of the city's historic district.

On Friday, there's an event called Taco Turf Wars in which chefs from across the country will compete using Lowcountry ingredients in their tacos.

Texas Roadhouse representative visits Marrington ES

Texas Roadhouse representative visits Marrington ES

JOINT BASE CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Representatives from Texas Roadhouse recently paid Marrington Elementary School a special visit. 

During the Christmas holidays, gift cards were purchased and donated by various customers to be given to military personnel.  Texas Roadhouse representatives Tammy Denise, Christina Coffman, and Jeremy Lewis came to Marrington Elementary and drew names of 100 military families to receive $20 worth of gift certificates to be used at their restaurant. 

Officials at Marrington Elementary School say they are very grateful to their fantastic business partner, Texas Roadhouse.

LOWCOUNTRY (WCSC) - The Charleston Restaurant Association announced on Monday that there are now 85 participating restaurants signed up for the 2011 Charleston Restaurant Week.

Charleston Restaurant Week starts on September 7 and runs through September 18.  Click here to check out the participating restaurants!
