CHARLESTON (WCSC) - It's still not too late to register for The Citadel's 16th annual Bulldog Challenge, which will be held this Friday.

Not for the faint of heart, the challenge tests the physical limits of even the fittest and fiercest endurance competitors from across the Southeast.

CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Registration is open for The Citadel's 16th annual Bulldog Challenge.

Not for the faint of heart, the challenge tests the physical limits of even the fittest and fiercest endurance competitors from across the Southeast.

Timberland, Hanahan bands to play in college hoops tourney

College basketball action comes to the Lowcountry with the ESPN’s fourth annual Charleston Classic Basketball Tournament, taking place Nov. 17, 18 and 20.  The event will be held at the TD Arena on the College of Charleston campus, 301 Meeting St., in downtown Charleston.

Collegiate men’s basketball teams scheduled to compete include: Georgia Institute of Technology, Louisiana State University, Northwestern University, Seton Hall University, St. Joseph’s University, Tulsa University, Virginia Commonwealth University and Western Kentucky University.  Games will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU and ESPN3.

Lowcountry high school bands will experience college-level excitement as they perform as “pep bands” for the competing teams.  Berkeley County’s own Timberland High, Cross High and Hanahan High marching bands have been invited to participate in this year’s tournament.

3rd Annual Run the Runway 5K set for Nov. 11

JOINT BASE CHARLESTON (WCSC) - The 437th Airlift Wing, along with 628th Air Base Wing support, will host the 3rd Annual Run the Runway 5K  on November 11.

The run will include portions of the flightline and is open to all military, DoD civilians and the local community.  Cost to run the certified 5K is seven dollars per person; this includes a race chip, bib number and a finisher medal if registered by Oct. 28.  T-shirts will be available for purchase at the event through a 3rd party vendor.

Juniors invited to volunteer at PGA Championship 2012

KIAWAH (WCSC) - Do you have a son or daughter who loves golf?

The 2012 PGA Championship is now accepting applications for juniors, ages 16-21, to participate in the fun by joining the official PGA Championship Volunteer Team. 

Juniors, ages 16-21, will be placed on one of four committees: leader boards, thru boards, monster board or standard bearers.  All committee assignments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Juniors must commit to a minimum of 12 volunteer hours during the week of the PGA Championship.

Women's personal training offered

JOINT BASE CHARLESTON (WCSC) - The Weapons Station fitness program is offering women's small group personal training free of charge at Sam's Gym. The service is offered Monday-Friday from noon to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m., and focuses on muscular strength, endurance and increased functionality of gross body movements. This program is offered to all fitness levels. Call 764-4173 for more information.

Sertoma Football Classic kicks off today

DOWNTOWN (WCSC) - The 41st edition of the Sertoma Football Classic kicks off on Thursday, once again signaling the start of the Lowcountry high school football season.

The action starts at 6:15 p.m. at Johnson Hagood Stadium with 14 teams matched up in a jamboree-style format nightly.  28 teams in all will participate.
